Sniper Elite (also known as Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945) is a 2005 third-person tactical shooter stealth video game developed by Rebellion Developments and published by MC2 France in Europe and by Namco Hometek in North America, in 2005. In 2012, to coincide with the release of the remake Sniper Elite V2, it was re-issued through Steam by Rebellion itself.
The protagonist of Sniper Elite is Karl Fairburne, a German-born American OSS operative disguised as a German sniper. He is inserted into the Battle of Berlin in 1945 during the final days of World War II, with the critical objective of preventing German nuclear technology from falling into the hands of invading Soviet forces.
Sniper Elite Berlin 1945 Game
Sniper Elite is a third-person shooter that combines stealth and first-person shooter game elements. To reinforce the stealth aspect, there is a camouflage index, measured in percentage, that displays the visibility of the player. Fairburne uses several World War II-era weapons, including various sniper rifles, a silenced pistol, submachine guns, light machine guns, an anti-tank weapon, and hand grenades that can also be used to set up tripwire booby traps.
One of the main features of the game is the option of realistic ballistics, involving factors such as bullet drop, wind strength, and breathing when attempting a shot. Sniping gameplay is performed in first person scope view, whereas movement and use of all other weapons is in third person view. When the player successfully takes a particularly well-placed sniper shot (such as a head shot or a shot on a moving target), the view follows the path of the bullet in slow motion, while the camera rotates around the bullet.
I cannot get the video game "Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945" to launch in Yosemite or El Capitan. Has anyone managed to accomplish this as I just get the messages attached? Crash report also attached for you cleverer people than I.
The story takes place in 1945 where Karl Fairburne is a US OSS (Office of Strategic Services) agent sent to the Battle of Berlin disguised as a German sniper. His Mission: Obtain secret documents about German nuclear technology before the Soviets get their hands on it.
One of the selling features of the game is including a slow-motion sniper cam. If you make a shot over 50m, the camera will fixate on the bullet leaving your gun and follow the trajectory in slow motion to it's intended target. Once it reaches that target, you get to see the gruesome results of your shot and are given a rating based on that shot that adds to your overall level score.
The main character is Karl Fairburne, an American OSS secret agent disguised as a German sniper. He is inserted into Battle of Berlin in 1945, during the final days of World War II, with the critical objective of obtaining German nuclear technology before the Soviet Union does.
The game follows protagonist Karl Fairburne as he attempts to prevent the Soviet Union taking control of Germany's nuclear secrets in and around Berlin, April 1945. Very little information is known about his background, other than he was raised in Berlin as the son of an U.S. ambassador to Germany before the war broke out, that he studied at West Point shortly after America's entrance into the war, and the fact that he was chosen for this mission because the city was his childhood home.
At a recent pre-E3 press event hosted by Namco we had an opportunity to play through a one-level demo of Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945, a game that we last saw running on an Xbox in September of last year. Although the PlayStation 2 version of the game was the only one on show on this occasion, the first thing we noticed was that the visuals had improved quite dramatically since our last encounter. Like so many recent games, Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945 uses light-bloom effects to soften edges, resulting in a look that's both easier on the eyes and more realistic.
In case you're unfamiliar with Sniper Elite's premise, the game will see you assuming the role of an American sniper behind enemy lines and disguised as a German at the end of World War II. The war-torn city of Berlin, in which the game is set, has been painstakingly re-created by the UK-based Rebellion development team, but the storyline that drives the primary mode of play is based on a "what if?" scenario rather than on historical facts. In a nutshell, Stalin's forces are waging war on the Germans in an attempt to capture scientists and gain control of the world's most powerful nuclear technology, and your mission is to stop them.
The story-driven mode in Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945 will comprise a total of 28 missions that can be played solo or cooperatively with a friend. The mission that we played started out much as you'd expect any mission that places you in the role of a sniper to: We were in a position at the top of a tower overlooking an area of Berlin, and there were plenty of enemy soldiers patrolling the area for us to pick off. We were playing on one of the game's more challenging difficulty settings, so when taking aim at our targets we had to take gravity and their distance from us into account--which basically meant aiming high above their heads. It didn't take us long to get used to the system, and the fact that every shot was challenging in its own way made the whole experience significantly more rewarding when we got it right. We were also pleased to see that Sniper Elite's slow-motion bullet cam is still in the game, although since its automatic use was no longer restricted to well-taken headshots, it was walking a fine line between being a satisfying reward for a particularly good shot and being overused.

The player takes the role of Karl Fairburne, an American OSS operative, sent to Berlin in 1945 with the assignment of assassinating top Nazi scientists suspected of being involved in a secret V2 rocket program. Fairburne must rely on his intelligence, training, skills, stealth, and arsenal to survive what is left of the German army. The player will rely mostly on their sniper rifle to push past enemy patrols and complete the objective.
The Arisaka Type 99 is added by "The Landwehr Canal Pack" DLC. The choice of the Type 99 is odd, as the entire game takes place in the European Theater, however it is arguable that an elite operative on such an operation would be able to choose any gear they so wished. It has a slow ROF compared to other rifles, but is the most powerful, coupled with high muzzle velocity and good scope zooming.
The Karabiner 98k. Pre-order bonus, unlocked from the start, or with purchase of the "Kill Hitler" DLC. It is also seen in Fairburne's hands on the front cover of the game box and in the menu diorama. The Karabiner 98k has the best scope zooming out of all the available sniper rifles, but has the slowest ROF out of all the rifles. It also suffers from low bullet velocity.
If you're a big fan of playing with sniper rifles in other third-person shooters, you'll probably like Sniper Elite's approach to the game. I'll admit there's a certain degree of frustration in that your sniper rifle isn't silenced -- had they not invented silenced rifles back in 1945 or something? You've got a silenced pistol, so why can't you have a silenced rifle? -- but the rest of the game is all about sneaking around the periphery of urban combat zones, subtly eliminating or evading enemies before they have any idea you're there. This isn't a game where you are there, fighting your way through the thick of the greatest battles of WWII; instead, you're one of the secret guiding hands that makes sure history has the chance to unfold as it did.
One of the dangerous factors comes from the game's graphics, unfortunately. The PS2 version is somewhat washed out and colorless compared to the other versions, which can make it difficult to spot opponents before they open fire. This is doubly annoying because the opposition, unlike you, has invented the flash suppressor and only fields soldiers with nearly superhuman vision. I've lost count of the number of times I've been killed by a near-invisible sniper, detected by troops I had no way of seeing first, or been blown to hell by a tank I could barely see. Some stages in the singleplayer or co-op modes have a certain Hitman vibe to them, where you've gotta go through them over and over again until you find the secret hidden path that'll get you to the end.
On the plus side, Sniper Elite doesn't fall prey to a lot of the silly little mistakes you get with sniper-based games sometimes, like textures radiating an invisible and invulnerable wall, or enemies being able to make shots that you never could. (Okay, there's a little of that, but on the whole, enemies do tend to have relatively realistic aim. No CPU opponent will open up on you from three blocks away on full-auto and hit with every bullet.)
